Why Irfan Pathan said, Shoaib Akhtar cannot be directly related to Bhuvneshwar Kumar | Cricket Post
Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan is always remembered for his swing bowling. After retiring from international cricket, Pathan has now come into the role of commentator and often gives his opinion on cricket related issues. He has now taken the example of former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar and Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar to differentiate between swing and speed. According to Pathan, it is a very difficult task for any bowler to swing the ball both ways.

Pathan wrote in the column of 'The Playfield Magazine' that, 'Swing and speed are the main weapons of any fast bowler and it has many advantages, but it is more difficult for any batsman to play swing bowling than speed.' Giving examples, Pathan explained that, 'It will be a very difficult task for Bhuvneshwar to become like Shoaib Akhtar, who was considered the fastest bowler of his time in the world, after swinging both ways. For a swing bowler, becoming a fast bowler can be a loss-making deal.

Pathan said that young bowlers should not compromise on swing just to add 4-5 clicks to their bowling. He considered swing more deadly than the fast ball. Pathan, who took a hat-trick in Test cricket for India, said that he had achieved the hat-trick against the Pakistan team in 2006 only on the basis of swing bowling.
